Super Brains is a small group that meets each week to work on social skills. This program is geared towards students in kindergarten through 1st grade who present with characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorders and need a little help navigating social situations.
If your child has anxiety, ADHD, or other behaviors, please seek out mental health specialists. Please visit our referral page for local service providers.
Curriculum and Instruction:
We work on being flexible, keeping your body and thoughts with the group, having appropriate reactions to different situations, and how to be a good friend. We utilize the Incredible Flexible You, You are a Social Detective, and Superflex curriculum developed by SLP Michelle Garcia Winner. More information on these and other social thinking products can be found at www.socialthinking.com.
Super Brains meets one day each week for a 1 hour session at the Language Center with our 2 Speech-Language Pathologists, Julie and Summer. We typically enroll students at the beginning of the year (January or February) and the group will run through December.
Students may be receiving services from their school (speech, tutoring, etc.) but will not be eligible for enrollment in Super Brains if they are receiving support outside of school (STAR, Koegel, CDPL, etc.).
If you would like your child to be considered for our next Super Brains group, call or email the Language Center to be put on the waitlist.
